Hoyo de Monterrey owes its origin to the plantation of the same name located in San Juan y Martínez
The Hoyo de Monterrey Grand Epicure Edición Limitada 2013 was released as part of Habanos S.A.’s prestigious Edición Limitada series, which features unique vitolas and specially aged tobaccos. This cigar revives the Montesco vitola, presented in slide-lid cedar boxes of 10, each adorned with a special “Grand Epicure” band and a supplementary Limited Edition 2013 band. Sharing its size with the instantly popular Romeo y Julieta Wide Churchill, it came as no surprise that the Grand Epicure quickly acquired a large and committed set of admirers. A charming cigar presented in SLB boxes of ten and dressed in a special band with 'Grand Epicure' printed under the main logo.
Founded in 1865 by Don José Gener y Batet, Hoyo de Monterrey is one of Cuba’s most historic and cherished cigar brands. The brand’s name, meaning “the Hole of Monterrey,” refers to the low-lying, fertile land along the San Juan y Martinez river in the heart of the Vuelta Abajo region - Cuba’s premier tobacco-growing area. Gener, a Spanish immigrant, invested decades in perfecting his plantation and cigar craft, quickly establishing Hoyo de Monterrey as a favourite among British and European cigar enthusiasts. Over the years, the brand has become synonymous with elegance, aromatic complexity, and a lighter, refined flavour profile, making it a top choice for those seeking sophistication without overwhelming strength.
